"States go after texting drivers" * On January 25, 2010, a front page article in USA TODAY was titled "State's go after texting drivers."  The article began, “The fight against distracted driving may be at a tipping point as 23 states debate legislation to ban texting while driving, a practice 19 states already have”. *

The activity of texting, or using a cell phone without a hands free device, is a dangerous distraction for motorists and can often be the cause of a serious accident.  As a result, many innocent motorists are victims of personal injuries or death.  According to the Department of Transportation there were over 515,000 injured and 5,870 people who died in related accidents in 2008.  In these situations, there could be a large settlement in favor of the victim, but often proper investigation as to the cause of the accident is required.  If you believe you were involved in an accident and injured because another driver was texting or using his or her cell phone while driving, it may be in your best interest to contact a lawyer.
